Component of Fitness - Anthropometry

Anthropometry

Anthropometry is the science of measuring the dimensions of the human body and its parts. Anthropometry involves measurements of bone and general body breadths, girths or circumferences, lengths and skinfold thicknesses of the human body according to a standard set of guidelines.

Some common measurements are: stretch stature or height, body mass, girths such as waist and hips and skinfold thicknesses such as triceps, subscapular, biceps and iliac crest.

The guidelines or set of rules for measurement used in this software are those adopted by the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK). A comprehensive description of these anthropometric standards can be found in the reference shown below (Norton et al, 1996).
